Invitations now available

It is now finally possible to send invitations to friends and family to have them involved in the i-think awards and voting. Each user has been allocated two invitations for this year.

Just go to the i-think Awards site, click Send Invitation and follow the on-screen instructions (of which there are few).

The people you invite won’t be able to invite others until next year’s awards. If you have any issues, contact me via the i-think awards website or make a comment on this post.

Nominations now open for 2008 i-think Awards

That’s right, it is time once again for the nominations to open up for this year’s i-think Awards. Remember, anyone can nominate and anyone can nominate a new category. Just check out the i-think Awards website.

Dates aren’t final, but I have to enter something for the site to work, so that’s why you’ll see the specifics. I’m still trying to work out what time of year is best to hold the awards so that as many people as possible can attend.Last year I made some big changes to the way the site works under the bonnet, making clearing the results and setting up the new awards even easier. Now that I’ve actually done it, we should be seeing nominations opening earlier than ever before for next year’s awards.

Also, new this year will be a feature where current users will be able to invite new people to become involved and vote in the awards. Invites will be limited (although the number has not yet been determined), however you’ll get more invites again next year. I am still in the “planning” stage for this feature, but given that it is much less ambitious than previous attempts to rewrite the entire site I am much more confident that I will find the time to implement.

So what are you doing still reading this post, you should be getting your nominations in for this year’s i-think Awards.

i-think Awards Site Update

The i-think Awards site has been updated to fix issues with escaping of quotes. This is the biggest rewrite to the core code in four years. Be sure to use the Inquiries page if you run into trouble so it can be fixed ASAP.Unfortunately the complete rewrite was not possible this year, but as always is on the cards for next year.

i-think Awards 2006 has begun

That’s right, the i-think Awards site is now online. Sure, it’s the same codebase that we’ve had for the last 3 years, but it works, so there. Maybe one day I’ll actually have the time and energy to rewrite it from scratch, but not this year!

So the only question that we are left with is: How many awards will Paul win this year?

i-think Awards Results

The results for the 2005 i-think Awards are in and a fun night was had by all last Sunday. Photos to be uploaded shortly. For a full list of all the vote totals, check out the Excel File. A full page of the winners will be up shortly, but at the moment I am focussing on the planning phase of the new i-think Awards website which whilst not as integrated with i-think Twenty-Two as I had originally planned, will serve to provide a great platform from which to run the awards. Once the new site goes live (I’m hoping within a month) I will be sending out the awards to those winners across the world and hope to receive some feedback to publish on the site.

The new awards site will also serve as a platform for the development of the official rules of the i-think Awards that will finally state the necessary procedures in particular with resolving grievances. If you have any suggestions for how the site can best be improved, let me know. A fair chunk of the backend will stay, but it will be rejigged as necessary to enforce the newly published rules better.

i-think Awards and Mail Merge

Deciding to simplify the job of certificate printing this year I used a mail merge. I only had to reprint the majority of the certificates after the grammatical failings became clear…

And guess how many I had to reprint?
